The pollen identifier
The flowering windows and pollen-load colours in our pollen identifier are our own compilation, built for this tool. They are informed by the standard references - Dorothy Hodges, The Pollen Loads of the Honeybee (1952), and W. D. J. Kirk, A Colour Guide to Pollen Loads of the Honey Bee (IBRA) - and cross-checked against several UK sources, but the colour values, descriptions and notes are our own. They are not copied or reproduced from any single chart. Pollen-load colour is a fact of nature that many charts describe; we describe it in our own words. Results are always a shortlist to confirm against what is in flower near you, never a verdict.
Plant photographs
Each plant in the identifier is illustrated with one photograph of the plant in flower. Every photograph comes from Wikimedia Commons and is used under its own free licence (Creative Commons or public domain). The photographer and licence are credited on each plant鈥檚 card in the tool, with a link to the source file. We host copies so the images load from our own site and cannot change underneath us.
Compliance guides
Our guides on record keeping, selling honey and the Asian hornet are written to be checked against the official pages on gov.uk, and each guide links to its official sources. Where the rules matter - the veterinary medicines record, food registration, hornet reporting - the official page is always the reference, not us.
Weather, maps and postcodes
Apiary weather comes from Open-Meteo, map tiles and geocoding from OpenStreetMap contributors, and postcode lookups from postcodes.io.
